The Sustainable development Goals adopted in 2015 encompass 17 goals and 169 targets that strive for peace, prosperity and progress for all. The SDGs provide a guide for global action in key areas where countries will have to invest in order to ensure sustainable socio-economic development and growth towards a sustained people, planet and prosperity.

Mentorship and volunteerism presents a unique platform of all stakeholders in the economic development and prosperity of their nation to partner and collaborate to unearth its potent power to ensure that ‘no one is left behind’ and Ghana is well positioned in this regard.

The 5th Mentorship and Volunteerism Excellence Summit and awards is under the theme: Mentorship: the catalyst for positive peace before during and after election 2024. This has become necessary to creat a common ground for the conversation for peaceful election.

The Awards will celebrate and honor mentors and volunteers in categories such as, mentor of the year, volunteer of the year, volunteer group of the year, volunteer organization of the year, impactful philanthropy award, and service through stem among others.

The National Mentoring Day is one of the fruits of the Awards project, this year’s celebration marks the third since its launch in 2018, and the theme for this year’s celebration is: Tech-Driven Futures; Mentoring the Next Generation.

The National Mentoring Day serves as a platform to help horn the importance of mentoring in personal and career development, business and entrepreneurship, growth and sustainability among others.

Taking place on the 18th of July each year, the day encourages events to take place throughout the country by individuals and organizations. This date is also chosen strategically to commemorate and celebrate the values and legacy of Nelson Mandela.  As a trans-generational leader, this day is celebrated across Africa and the world at large for his great leadership, sacrifice and impact on the lives of many people.

Mandela has become a symbol of what one can achieve with true dedication to a cause, and a moral authority whose name inevitably stands tall alongside other freedom fighters, including Mahatma, and Martin Luther King Jr.

The celebration of the day will wetness 3 major zonal events, 5 virtual events and basic school, secondary and tertiary mentoring projects. The basic and secondary school events will witness the students been exposed to “Teen-prenueship” with resource persons facilitating on purpose driven lifestyle, time management, Ai, volunteerism, planning, programing, staring your dream business etc.

The zonal events are as follows northern zone Kumasi, southern zone Accra, western zone Takoardi. Individual volunteers will also take advantage of the day for personal mentoring initiatives and activities to commemorate the day.

By making mentoring and volunteerism an acknowledged and recognized intervention on all levels of policy making, a broader implementation is made possible. The multi-sectorial effects of mentoring calls for a multi-sectorial support of decision makers and stakeholders on local, national and international level towards sustainable development.
